Vegan Pet Food

by admin on August 5, 2010

If a vegetarian feeds their cat or dog meat they are often considered hypocritical. Yet if they feed them a vegetarian diet they are seen to be imposing their own personal views on animals which are by nature carnivorous. It’s a case of damned if you do and damned if you don’t. But Sandy Anderson has come up with a solution! veganpet.com.au Taken from Animals Matter, broadcast on channel 31 Melbourne 2005. www.animalsmatter.com.au

Perverted morons. Vegan pet food is animal abuse.

dogs are scavengers, not carnivores. THey developed this diet over 15,000 years. I cook vegan dog food for my dog based on a lentil and brown rice formula. Since I am making it at home I can add or subtract ingredients to account for my dogs allergies. Do some research on dog food. Read Food your pets die for, to find out more about commercial dog foods.

I’m a vegan and my cat is a vegetarian as it gets this food twice daily and a whole free range egg (including shell) blended up and poured on top since it makes it easier for the cat to eat it.
He’s happy, I’m happy. I don’t see the problem.

Such inspiration to have a vegan companion animal! Thanks.

In almost every decision one makes in life someone will be criticizing you. Why should it matter what they say as long as you doing the best for your pet? When owning a pet you in part take away their ability to care for themselves. IT IS A PET OWNERS RESPONSIBILITY to take care of them the best way possible. It’s not hypocritical to feed a cat meat if your vegan. Just find sources of meat that were treated humanly throughout its life (and death), with an appropriate diet and care.

Awesome!!!

traffictragedy03 August 6, 2010 at 4:09 am

That is grossly unnatural.

muppetspuppets August 6, 2010 at 5:00 am

awesome products. I wish they were more accessable.

Fleefles August 6, 2010 at 5:30 am

While I’m not a vegetarian, nor do I feed my animals vegan food, I do not see the problem with feeding an animal vegan pet food as long as it doesn’t kill them and is palatable to them. It may not be “natural,” but neither is feeding an animal kibble from a bag or slop from a can.

Avoice4theUnheard August 6, 2010 at 6:19 am

AnimalRightsUnited you are right. I looked it up and its true the worlds longest living dogs were vegetarian and vegans.

blackfeatherarchery August 6, 2010 at 6:43 am

The food sound’s like bullshit.

Rambatsu August 6, 2010 at 6:58 am

This Woman Is awesome

AnimalRightsUnited August 6, 2010 at 7:21 am

Type into your search engine “oldest dogs in nthe world” and you will see that the 2 oldest dogs in the world are vegetarian.

I’m skeptical. I’d need to know the average life expectancy of animals raised on a diet of dry vegan cereal.

Many carniverous animals can’t digest plants. They add it to pet food to make them crap more. like a laxitive. It would be nice if they would stop putting peanut shells & soybean husks in pet cereal too.

grundgekid91 August 6, 2010 at 8:50 am

yeah I think there are 8 essential amino acids for humans. I’m not sure how many for cats or dogs tough. there are about 20 in all but your body can make around 12 naturally. again not 100% on animals i should know though sorry.

ALXD1974 August 6, 2010 at 8:51 am

this post is about human diet only….not my opinion about vegan food for dogs or cats.

ALXD1974 August 6, 2010 at 9:38 am

protein is created by 8 i think different aminoacids.those aminoacids are also on vegies but separated…all u have to do is the right combination…the meat on the other side its the final result ready to serve…just easier way to consume proteins ….not at all the best way…..and thats a huge misunderstood in almost everyones head…

MaxwellsAxiom August 6, 2010 at 9:44 am

true a protein molecule is a protein molecule but i would like to know how exactly they put it into the food. is it just extracted from meat or a different vegetable or legume? or is it synthetically made? I would strongly disagree with trying force a veggie/vegan diet on your pets esp. cats who are true or obligate carnivores you are just acting for problems

ImTheRiffRaff August 6, 2010 at 9:45 am

Do you feed these pets an all-vegan diet? If not, you are a ‘speciesist’ and a hypocrite, because you are placing the lives of these animals above the lives of all the animals they consume as food.

kanonekraftschuss August 6, 2010 at 9:47 am

We taught a lion to eat grass like a cow.

kanonekraftschuss August 6, 2010 at 10:01 am

My cat eats only rice. The whole day only rice. Since he was weaned he ate only rice. The whole day only rice. He never ate anything else in his life. The whole day only rice. Like a Chinese, only rice. The whole day only rice. I am a sick psycho vegan, you know. The whole day only rice. That’s the only thing I can think about: The wole day only rice. My cat eats only rice…

This is how I see vegans.

marxist854 August 6, 2010 at 10:07 am

I agree with you, wurlybird9, the exploitive “pet” trade needs to be stopped. Non-humans are not our property, commodities, or toys.
I care for many non-human family member, 1 cat, 3 chinchillas, 4 degus, and many fish and frogs, and all of them are adopted/rescued. I would never support the pet trade. I am strongly against speciesism and animal exploitation. No one should belong to someone else!

NaturalCalls August 6, 2010 at 11:15 am

if you see some of my videos, you’d know that my position is the same as yours, except the pet part. i have 3 cats and i love them as if they were family. actually, they ARE family. at night, they sleep on my bed with me, and i can tell they love me too. pet ownership….what’s wrong with that? would you prefer stray animals in the streets suffering from hunger and cold??
if you wish to continue this conversation, please send me a message. let’s not do it at this video. we’re out of topic….
