Should Menu Foods be testing healthy animals with their tainted pet food to help determine the underlying cause of the illnesses and deaths associated with their pet food? Tests on the tainted food began AFTER consumers complained that their pets were poisoned by the food.

Menu Foods may be testing/killing animals to determine the cause of illness and death associated with their recalled pet food. We would like Menu Foods to be honest and forthcoming about whether they are testing/killing animals as part of their investigation into the cause of the tainted pet food. If so, we would like Menu Foods to discontinue all animal testing in this manner. Did we test healthy people with the tainted spinach? How about healthy kids with Taco Bell? I don’t think so.
…”The FDA on Monday said that as many as one in six animals died in tests of suspect dog and cat food by the manufacturer after complaints the products were poisoning pets around the country.”…

It’s awful, and I wish it didn’t have to happen. But how exactly are they supposed to find out the problem if they can’t test it? It’s not like they’re testing hair spray here – this is pet food, something every animal lover has to buy at some point. I, for one, would like to know that the food I buy my pets is safe. Testing on animals is unfortunate, but a necessary evil. There is absolutely no other way to keep your pets safe.
Animals are no longer able to have lipstick and shampoo tested on them, but they can eat contaminated food. What sense does this make? They should have had it analyzed in a lab.
The FDA needs to buckle down on these food companies. They are really slipping in the past few years. Peanut butter making people sick, bad spinach, pain medicine that can kill and now our pets must suffer as well.
No they shouldn’t be but how else are they going to know whether something is good or bad? Also, no, humans aren’t tested but rats and mice are? Do you feel that this practice is okay? I don’t feel that is right either. My daughter has pet rats!
