What would cause a healthy cat to suddenly get a bad fever and almost die?

My cat all of a sudden started stumbling around, disoriented and falling over, vet said he had a bad fever. What could cause this?

Nate February 5, 2010 at 12:22 am: seems like everyones pet is getting sick from the food they are eating lately. Or really it could just be caused by a virus the cat got into contact with.
theb February 5, 2010 at 1:01 am: it could be any number of things.. A fever is a sign of “INFECTION” the cats body is trying to fight. It could be poison. It could be lots of things. sounds more like poisoning…
